algonquin Windigo spirit

In Algonquin folklore, the Windigo is an evil spirit native to the northern forests of the Atlantic coast and Great Lakes of the United States and Canada. The Windigo may appear as a monster with the characteristics of a human, or as a spirit who has possessed a human being and altered their appearance into something monstrous. It is historically associated with insatiable greed. In some indigenous communities, environmental destruction is seen as a manifestation of Windigo Psychosis.
